The Chicago World's fair of 1893 was authorized by Congress in 1890
It was designed in January, 1891
Ground was broken in February, 1891
200 ornate buildings were constructed
Many were massive, but supposedly all were temporary
The fair opened in March, 1893
It was an hour west of Chicago by horse and buggy
It had 27 million visitors in 6 months
That was half the population of the U.S. at the time
No mention of where all the visitors slept
It closed in September, 1893 after 6 months
All but 2 buildings were torn down shortly after
